This position is remote with preference to fill in the Lexington, KY or surrounding area.


The Business Data Specialist guides the association on ongoing and future technology needs. Manages all data entry, collection, queries, and reports in the company database; serves as lead a/v tech at training institutes. Primary liaison to CSG on technology related issues for association.


  • Serves as the administrator of APPA's relational database and database trainer for all staff.
  • Oversees data collection and data entry for APPA contacts in database.
  • Writes and executes custom queries in database. Works with APPA to create custom reports as needed/required.
  • Source consult, purchase, negotiate, write, and manage RFP process and contracts for computer systems, database, and all IT related procurement, i.e., AV, square-up, and credit card processing.
  • Provides technical support and troubleshoots information technology issues.
  • Develops budget and five-year plan for association's information technology needs.
  • Serves as a liaison between APPA and CSG Technology Division.
  • Assesses, recommends, and implements standards, technologies, and trends to improve IT processes.
  • Determines appropriate hardware/software for staff; provides technical support of hardware/software, have knowledge of PCs, laptops, and servers for grant projects and webinars; and maintain software licensing.
  • Manages APPA Association Management Software which includes management of SQL and web servers; oversees and implements updates and maintains test site; coordinating and implements accounting set-up includes setup and management of Vantiv Merchant Services; and serves as the primary trainer.
  • Manages training institute registration set up and technologies: computer (hardware/software, networking), AV equipment, projector, etc. and provides direct, technical support and troubleshooting assistance to staff, volunteers and members.
  • Completes various reports; i.e., membership, roster, credit card and cash transactions for Board and others.
  • Works closely with the Professional Development Manager and Training Coordinator with meeting-based projects to ensure successful execution and evaluation of processes.

  • Database experience (netFORUM enterprise or SQL-based database preferred, understanding of NetFORUM toolkit preferred) including report generation
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Contribute.
  • Knowledge of SQL, SQL Reporting Services, ASPX, and .NET technologies.
  • Ability to provide direction and instruction to non-IT staff.
  • Periodic travel to all regions within the United States

  • Bachelor's degree with advanced training in the subject area
  • Completion of a training program or courses in database administration preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience with database management or database administration, preferably with an association management database.
  • Experience providing technical support for staff and meetings/events preferred.
