Great Opportunity:  Immediate opening for an attorney capable of full cycle completion of American Arbitration Association “AAA” commercial arbitration cases from inception to award or settlement including demand for arbitration, intake, filing AAA forms, pleadings, briefs, etc. The cases are B2B contract disputes and some have ordinary intellectual property issues where typically substantial sums of money (six, seven and occasionally 7 figures) are withheld from our clients that we seek recovery of.  It is necessary to be competent in contract law, civil procedure, and very basic intellectual property law and to have experience and a good working knowledge as to how to conduct discovery, get evidence and testimony entered into proceedings and make appropriate objections; and respond to objections.  Have knowledge of and/or ability to follow AAA rules. 

Have excellent litigation and negotiation skills, ability to effectively advocate for our clients in and out of hearings.  Attention to detail, great research and analytical skills, and critical thinking ability are vital in creating and building strong cases and in creating persuasive arguments. Be well able to conduct legal research with software and tools, such as Westlaw, LexisNexis or similar.  Have the habit of staying current with relevant laws and precedents. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary for drafting legal documents and communicating with clients, colleagues, the tribunal and opposing counsel.

This requires case management skills, precision in legal writing, a professional demeanor at depositions and court hearings and a high likely hood of hearing.  Be hard-working, motivated, have a positive attitude and be capable of doing independent work.

This work is done remotely, but some in person appearances at arbitrations can be expected.  This is a part-time independent contract position that could be scaled to full time. Compensation: Hourly $100.00 to $150.00 or other payment arrangements such as flat fee, percentage, etc.  

Further Description:

Evaluate facts, law and develop case strategies/arguments. Gather and evaluate evidence. As needed, draft motions, discovery, arbitration brief and the like. Interview clients and witnesses as needed. Prepare client and/or witness and/or statements for proceedings. Prepare to conduct or defend depositions as needed. Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, and documents, primarily using research software such as Westlaw, LexisNexis or similar. Draft correspondence to be sent to client, arbitrator or opposing counsel. Draft and negotiate case settlement. Initiate written discovery and respond to written discovery. Manage and be responsible for entire arbitration from inception through settlement or hearing. Appear at all hearings (remotely and some in person). Deal with appeals, if any. Have excellent analytical and critical reasoning skills. Have the ability to think on their feet and respond strategically. Be focused and positive.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. • 1 to 3 years of litigation experience preferred. • Admitted to practice in Washington State. • Experience with discovery, motion practice, brief writing and depositions. • Arbitration experience. • First chair experience • Capable of independent work. • Ability to multi-task and work in an organized and efficient manner. • Superior research and writing skills. • Ability to analyze moderately complex matters.
